Description
A new species of Muraenidae (Uroprerygiinae) Channomuraena bauchotae is described from the coastal waters of Reunion Island, Indian Ocean. The genus was considered to be monospecific, Channomuraena vittata (Richardson, 1844) being the only species known till now. C. bauchotae is differentiated by 132 vertebrae, 1 or 0 branchial pore, 5 preoperculomandibular pores, the pre-anal length (91,1 % LT), snout and interocular width larger than 14% of the head, vomerine teeth in a single row, biserial teeth on the jaws.
