Description
Actual data on the occurence of tunas in the south tyrrhenian sea are given. Bluefin tuna and related species come for spawning in this area. The main area of reproduction is located between the eastern Sicile, Calabre and Eoliennes Islands. During the spawning season, tunas gather in large schools swimming in the superficial layers. Their movements are restricted by environmental conditions, since they are at this time highly sensitive to thermie gradients (thermocline and frontal area).
