In the context of this strategy, an informal working group dedicated to prepare guidance for the technical protocol of the Intercalibration required in the Directive has been set up. The main (short-term) objective of this working group, launched in June 2001, was the development of a non-legally binding and practical Guidance Document on the technicalprotocol for the establishment of the intercalibration network and the intercalibrationexercise of the Water Framework Directive. The Commission’s Directorate General, Joint Research Centre (Institute of Environment and Sustainability) has the responsibility of the leadership and co-ordination of the working group that is composed of technical expertsfrom governmental and non-governmental organisations.
