Description
The Ebridians, marine planktonic flagellates with an internal siliceous skeleton, used to be very numerous in the Tertiary era but are only represented nowadays by two genera: "Ebria" Borgert (1891) and "Hermesinum" Zacharias (1906). Found successively in the Baltic Sea, the North Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the northern Pacific Ocean, the northern and southern Atlantic Ocean, they had never been observed in tropical seas. Consequently, they were considered as cold or temperate water organisms. Their presence on the western African coast, at latitude 4° 48' S, in addition to extending their distribution area, seems to invalidate this point of view. Without drawing any hasty conclusion, it seemed interesting to recall their appearance in the Bay of Pointe-Noire.
