We recently analysed a population of Mediterranean sardines in the Gulf of Lion that had never before been studied in its entirety. The analysis drew on biometry and haematology, a novel approach for this type of study. The study was carried out over three consecutive years and the morphological, biological and ecological characteristics of this population were described, sometimes in great detail. Some practical conclusions were drawn for the Mediterranean sardine fishery....
