Description
The parasitic worms (helminths) of fish in the Marseilles region have been studied by Timon-David (1937) and Carrère (1938). However, those from fish in the Berre Lagoon have never been studied. The present study thus provides observations on this population of helminths. The fish studied here (Caranx trachurus [syn. Trachurus trachurus] Linnaeus, Morone labrax [syn. Dicentrarchus labrax] Linnaeus and Scomber scombrus Linnaeus) are abundant throughout the year. The methodical observation of their digestive tract revealed four parasites belonging to families Fellodistomatidae (Odhner) Nicoll, Allocreadiidae Stossich and Dinuridae Luhe. After isolation, live examination and fixation, the specimens were stained with borax carmine solution and carefully cleared in a bath of hydrochloric acid and alcohol following the classic protocol.Representatives of each family of helminths will be reviewed in turn. We give here a list of the abbreviations that are used in Figures 1 to 4 that illustrate our descriptions.
