Description
The present paper is subsequent to the Meetings and Workshops: Biodiversity, for an oversea successful win back organized in September 2018 by the Ministry for Ecology and solidarity transition and the Ministry for Overseas France. Given the now well-known worsening and loss of biodiversity at large and of marine biodiversity in particular, possible solutions are envisaged, largely inspired by what Nature devises for our societies to organise themselves and endeavour to solve questions raised. It explains how Nature is an “interacting plurality”. Besides, the ecosystems that Nature created in 4 billion years of evolution are the result of co-dependent webs and interspecies relationships where each one is ultimately useful to the other, harmonising specific and general interest and contributing to the balance and bounty of the system. Mutatis mutandis, the dependency and interaction of these networks apply. What is needed is an effective solidarity between public decisions, knowledge, research, business or non-governmental associations, which would be conducive to balances that are lacking at the moment. Two examples are given. First, New-Caledonia: the territory’s innovative ambition regarding its marine area suggests that the issue of biodiversity preservation is a growth factor when shared and co-constructed by all stakeholders. Second: Overseas territories represent 97% of national maritime potential and their diversity is a strength. In this case an emerging solidarity between actors is perceived. Effective leveraging and the easing of barriers between all sectors will create synergies both bearing solutions and exemplary in nature.
