Description
The use of animals in research remains indispensable. However, recent scientific awareness raises ethical concerns and highlights the need to respect the welfare and suffering of animals, and also the necessity – and duty – for the scientific community to take these two aspects into account. The aim of this report is to document the regulatory framework that covers the use by Ifremer of aquatic animals for scientific purposes; and also, to take into account species and/or activities that are not directly covered by law and to report ethical issues raised by certain types of research and the responses provided by Ifremer. The report also proposes avenues for maintaining and developing the actions implemented by Ifremer to respect the welfare and minimise suffering of the animals studied.
