Travaux ISTPM 1954 - La pêche aux Antilles Françaises

A head of laboratory from the Biology Service has been entitled by the management committee of the F.I.D.O.M. to study the fishing opportunities offered in the waters of the French Caribbean, from November 1950 to May 1951. The aim of this mission was double: - on the one hand, it aimed to determine if the fauna and the geographic data of these islands were sufficient to allow the development of the fishing industry, and consequently the feeding of more than half a million individuals; - on the other hand, it aimed to try and orientate some of the large Caribbean manpower towards this new industry and to drive the existing artisanal fishermen towards a gradual modernisation of their living and working conditions through a technical education.
