Description
Agroecology and water management knowledge spheres have long been disconnected. This paper advocates bridging this divide to boost sustainable food production. We stress that a paradigm shift is needed so that irrigation will no longer be viewed merely as a technical productivity support tool. A multiservice irrigation concept is proposed whereby irrigation is planned and applied to enhance ecosystem functions essential for sustainable food production.
