Description
Chlorophyll a is the most often used index of phytoplankton biomass in oceanography. However, its relation with primary production is still poorly known, particularly in oceanic region. During a 13 days study in the equatorial Atlantic Ocean (0°, 4°W), chlorophyll synthesis has been measured every day in parallel with carbon fixation : water was sampled before sunrise, screened through a 200 m net, and incubated "in situ" from sunrise to sunset.
