Description
The network IFREMER/ REMORA watches every year, from February to December, mortality, growth and quality criteria of two oyster batches ("juveniles" = one-year class ; and "adults" = two-years class), distributed among various stations of the main French oyster areas. This network is a tool for trend estimations (geographic and chronological, on the national scale). With regard to the Breton stations of the network, the year 1999 showed a small increase of mortality rates, both in adults alter their transfer on the REMORA stations and in juveniles during the Summer season. this was particularly observed in Morlaix, Aber Benoît and Pen-Bé. Although it was better than 1998, the year 1999 was a poor year for growth, especially in North Brittany (62.5 g in average) and slightly better in South Brittany (69.7 g). Differences between stations were important, with best growths being observed in Penzé and Aber Wrac'h in North Brittany, and in Etel, Quiberon, Pénerf and Le Croisic in South Brittany. Quality indices were also under usual values. At last, the infestation by the worm Polydora has still increased and only Cancale remains poorly infested.
