Rapport de campagne MAROLIS 2021. Large de l’aéroport de Nice, 11-18 Juillet 2021

The works undertaken during the  MaRoLis 2021 cruise aimed at detecting the precursory signs and controlling factors of submarine landslides offshore Nice Aiport, as part of the ANR MODAL project. This implied the deployement of two piezometers to record over several years the fluid pressure and temperature within the upper five meters of sediments. In addition to these classical deployments, two prototype instrumented rods were installed with the Penfeld penetrometer to measure over the same period of time the displacement of sediments, their fluid pressure and temperature down to fifty meters below the seafloor. Two piston cores of about ten meters long were also recovered to analyse the nature of the fluids, the deformation and strength properties of sediments as useful parameters to the interpretation of in situ measurements. Beyond implications for the ANR MODAL project, the MaRoLis 2021 cruise contributed to the testing of the Penfeld penetrometer, the testing of gas sensors deployment on a CTD/Rosette, the acquisition of calibration data for a gravimeter.
