Description
The knobby triton, Charonia lampas (Linnaeus, 1758) is the largest marine gastropod in the Northeast Atlantic. It is considered rare in the Bay of Biscay. It has never been officially referenced on the coasts of Charente-Maritime. For the first time in the summer of 2024, a live adult specimen of Charonia lampas was observed in situ on the west coast of the Oléron Island and its report documented. We briefly present the conditions of the discovery of this specimen of C. lampas, its biology and its ecology.
