Plastique dans l'Océan : quand la BD contre-attaque !

The artist residency “Plastic in the Ocean: When Comics Strike Back!” was organized in 2026 as part of the ANR VECTOPLASTIC project “Marine plastics as vectors of human pathogens” (coordinated by thierry.bouvier@cnrs.fr), by UMR MARBEC (contact: emmanuelle.roque@ifremer.fr), in collaboration with the IH.SM (Institute of Fisheries and Marine Sciences) and the Alliance Française, in Toliara, Madagascar, which hosted the event.  Plastic pollution is a global scourge that contaminates all ecosystems and living beings. The aim of this residency was to bring together comic book writers and artists to use comics as a vehicle for conveying scientific knowledge. Through their stories, five artists—Farahaingo, Anitah Benah, Jacques R., R-Aly, and Fred Neidhardt—offer their perspective on the risks associated with plastic pollution in the oceans, while also suggesting potential solutions.
