Description
The introduction of the limpet Crepidula fornicata on French coasts occurred through a number of stages of unequal amplitude. The two main stages are the result of a) its transportation on the hulls of the Allies ships during WWII, and b) the voluntary introduction of the Japanese oyster Crassostrea gigas in the 1970s. A recent assessment of its distribution shows that it can be found from the North Sea to the Mediterranean shores, resulting in some conflicts, due to its high density.
