Nouvelle carte des abords du plateau continental entre les îles Shetland et Faeroe

The results of the bathymetric measurements methodically conducted on board the two vessels of the Institute of Marine Fisheries "Président Théodore Tissier" and "Thalassa" enabled the publication in 1961 of charts 1 to 12 focusing on the region located between the Porcupine bank and Cap Finisterre and of chart N°17, in 1962, focusing on the North-Tampen sector, between Norway and the north of the Shetlands.A new chart, n°18, published in 1966, continues towards the south-west of the North-Tampen chart and gives the bathymetry of the region located between the north and west of the Shetlands and the south of the Faeroe Islands. It covers the sector located between latitudes 59°35' and 62°00' N and longitudes 0°00' and 7°10' W.It was established according to a method already described (1) and is based on soundings conducted over four cruises which took place in September-October 1959, June 1963, October 1964 and June 1965. It comprises contours 100 m by 100 m down to 1 500 m, the leadlines used to trace them, and, superimposed, the hyperbolic network, in three colours, of the Decca navigation system (the following pages give its 1/3 reproduction, without the Decca network).The new data provided by this chart about the topography of this region where many trawlers cruise (2) and its wide angle presentation (medium scale 1/392 650), mostly used for marine charts, make it a very handy document for fishers and scientists.
