Description
The LANGOLF-TV surveys are annual scientific surveys carried out on an oceanographic vessel with the aim of estimating the abundance of Norway lobsters (Nephrops norvegicus) in the Bay of Biscay (FU23-24) by counting their burrows using an underwater video camera. Underwater video monitoring is used to count the number of Norway lobsters burrows along transects usually laid out in a systematic grid (4.7 nautical miles). Scientists work 24 hours a day, in shifts, to acquire 10 minutes of video from 183 stations spread over the entire « Grande Vasière » area. The sampling area is stratified according to the sedimentary nature of the seabed. The results of this assessment survey, once processed, will serve as a basis for the recommendations of the ICES working group (WGNEPS) on monitoring the Bay of Biscay Norway lobsters stock. Since 2014, the survey has been managed and implemented by IFREMER. It became part of the DCF (Data Collection Framework) in 2023. This survey follows on from the LANGOLF scientific trawling surveys carried out on board the RV Gwen-Drez from 2007 to 2013.
