Les métiers de la pêche pratiques sur l'étang de Thau ; premiers éléments d'informations

The present report describes the fisher and shellfisher populations in the Thau Lagoon as well as the fleet of vessels and its activities. Until now, only shellfish activities have been studied due to their importance. The vast majority of Mediterranean shellfish are produced in the Thau Lagoon (90%) and represents 12 to 15% of national shellfish production in France. However, other fishing activities are practiced and are well diversified. They deserve to be better defined, both qualitatively and quantitatively. This study was carried out under the supervision of CEPRALMER and IFREMER and constitutes a framework survey from which the identified components and conclusions will be integrated in a future study on the development of a sampling strategy of the species fished in the Thau Lagoon. This future study will be conducted by the "small-scale industries" team from the Ifremer Laboratory at Sète (EEC contract).
