Description
About 200 km of the Breton coastline was polluted as a consequence of the sinking of the tanker Tanio, on March 7th, 1980. A chemical monitoring was carried out to study the pollution of water (three months) and intertidal sediments (sixteen months). In comparison with the Amoco Cadiz, the contamination of water and sea beds has been limited, thanks to the high viscosity of the pollutant and the smaller size of the spill.
