Description
The issue of seabed destruction in the Gulf of Giens, is certainly linked to a regression of Posidonia oceanica which does not carry out its protecting role towards loose substrates. These destructions lead, through the creation of a new balance profile, to irreversible beach deterioration processes. The disappearance of seagrass seems linked not only to the quantity but also to the quality of the urban waste flowing into the gulf. The issue of seabed destruction in the Gulf of Giens could be solved in a favourable way for the marine fauna and flora by stopping the waste input in this environment and rejecting them south of the peninsula at depths of 40 to 50 m where strong currents enable a good thinning of the effluents. After the pollution issue is resolved, it will be necessary to rebuild the deteriorated beaches. But before that, we must first slow down the power of the sea by rebuilding the seagrass.
