L'étang de Thau : compétition dans l'exploitation, une redite

More than a century ago, the first applications to set up oyster farms in the Thau Lagoon were filed with the Maritime Register of "Cette". As a brackish-marine environment with a global surface area of 7 500 ha, this lagoon is 19 km long by 4.5 km wide (Fig. 1) and is divided into two unequal parts separated by the strait formed by Balaruc Point and Barrou Point at Sète: the Eaux Blanches lagoon that covers 600 ha and the Great lagoon that stretches to the west over approximately 7 000 ha.
