Eponges de la méditerranée Nord-Occidentale récoltées par le « Président-Théodore-Tissier » (1958)

The Fisheries Institute appointed me to do a study on sponges. The sponges were sampled during trawling operations in Corsica and in the Gulf of Lion during October and November 1958. This small collection holds particular interest due to the depth of several sampling stations. Nine of the trawls brought up sponges from depths of 150 to 860 m. While these depths are not extreme, they are interesting because the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea has only rarely been explored using trawls. Given the sparse distribution of fauna at depths below 150 to 200 m, trawls sample more efficiently than dredges....
