Description
The toxicity of organostannic compounds has been demonstrated for the oyster Crassostrea gigas through larval (His & Robert, 1980) and adult stages (Alzieu & al., 1980, 1981). In parallel, these authors demonstrated the accumulation of tin in experimentally contaminated oysters as well as the part played by TBT fluorides in growth disturbance (Héral & al. 1981) and oyster shell deformity (Alzieu & al., 1981). In this work, we precise the TBT fluoride toxic doses causing, after 35 days, a mortality of 100 % at a concentration of 0.5 µgl-1. In addition, the different TBT organic salts (acetate, methacrylate and fluoride) are tested and TBT fluoride appears to be the more toxic. Authors then tackle breathing and ATP measurements as stress indicators in molluscs subjected to TBT organic salts.
