Description
Salses-Leucate lagoon in Roussillon is a water table of around 5 300 ha. This lagoon is in fact divided into two areas: to the south is the Salses lagoon which represents around two thirds of the total surface, to the north is the Leucate lagoon. Both lagoons are separated by a series of shoals (they create the frontier between the two departments of Aude and Pyrénées-Orientales). Up until recently, the Salses-Leucate lagoon only communicated permanently with the sea through its northern part (through the "grau"-estuary-of Leucate), which was deepened a few years ago. Not long ago, the reparation of the grau Saint-Ange, in the southern area, enabled a more important and more regular input of marine water....
