Description
The sardine (Clupea pilchardus. Walb.) is the focus, in the Breton waters, of a very important coastal fishery whose origins lie a very long time ago. Each year, in each and every Breton harbour, its arrival is eagerly awaited for, and as soon as it appears, around mid-May, in the waters of the Sables-d'Olonne, the fishing boats prepare themselves actively as large shoals will arrive very shortly in the northern waters: at the end of May or beginning of June off Quiberon and around Belle-Isle, a few days later around Groix.
