Description
Chaetognaths of the northern part of the European Atlantic Ocean are well known, having been studied, among others, by Russell (1931-1936), J. Furnestin (1938), Southward (1961-1962) in the English Channel; Pierce and Orton (1939), Pierce (1941), Farran (1947), Williamson (1956) in the Irish Sea and Wimpenny (1937) and Russell (1939) in the North Sea. In Scottish waters, Fraser conducted research between 1937 and 1961 and noted, in particular, species typical of southern regions in this boreal zone.M.-L. Furnestin carried out studies in the African waters of the Atlantic Ocean, and over the last ten years she has established biological and ecological features of Atlantic-Mediterranean chaetognath species and given them an ecological classification based on coastal, sub-coastal and offshore forms....
