We have investigated the distribution of microbial populations of North Atlantic Ocean at 13 stations. Sea water was collected by steril bacteriological samplers. Bacterial counts have been made on board, by membrane filter culture method on 2216 E medium. Microbial concentration decrease with depth is very irregular. Universal scheme of bacterial distribution cann't be significant. In the open sea bacterial biomass is weak because lower microbial concentration water mass « 400 germs / litre here) can be found aIl over the water column till the euphotic layer. In spite of the study of 17 physico-chemical and biological characters it is not possible to settle a relation between bacterial distribution and hydrological characteristics in this ocean area.
